Microsoft Store: Star Wars Kinect

In a Microsoft Store far far away…

The new Star Wars Kinect game for Xbox removes the controller and brings the user into the Star Wars universe allowing them to act out all their favorite Jedi moves.  For this concept I recreated the infamous Star Wars intro credits that stretch across the entire video wall in the Microsoft Stores. The final combined resolution of the video piece was 57000 x 1080 pixels.

Adobe Ideas Sketch Lightning Blade

Lightning Blade

So I started playing around with Adobe Ideas the other day and I gotta say I think it’s starting to become one of my favorite iPad apps for sketching and illustrating.  I think the biggest plus to this app is the fact that all the sketches are vector and I can import them into Photoshop or Illustrator with no loss of quality.

Wiggle on Position for the Puppet Tool

This tutorial covers how to apply expressions to the x and y positions separately in the puppet tool.  In the previous tutorial, Wiggle on Position, I showed you how to apply a wiggle position to x and y separately using the Separate Dimensions option.  The puppet tool in After Effects doesn’t have this option so we have to use an expression to achieve the same effect.

Animating Pixel Art in Photoshop

Creating your own pixel animation in Photoshop is as easy as it is fun!  Using Photoshop’s Animation panel you can switch between animating with the timeline or frames view.  Heck, Photoshop can even create inbetween frames of animation between two keyframes based on the object’s position, opacity, or effects.  The process is quite simple so pull up a chair and grab some coffee and let’s get started…

Seattle Pixel Art

If you’re a fan of pixel art and happen to be in the Seattle area you’re in for a treat.  Walking past some of the buildings in downtown you might catch a glimpse of some 8 bit art in the windows residents and employees made using post-it notes.  It’s pretty creative and I can only hope this trend catches on and we start seeing more of these popping up everywhere.

After Effects On and Off Expression

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to add an After Effects expression that will randomly turn on and off a layer’s opacity to create a blinking effect.

Fun with Macro Photography

A short montage of video clips taken from my Nikon D90 camera and a 150mm Macro Lens I rented for the week.  I love macro photography and I spent the week just taking various photos and videos of random objects.  Next time I definitely want to put together some storyboards and film a small short using the lens.
